It was staged on three different levels: Might And Magic Heroes Online Creatures Heroes of Might and Magic Online featured four magic systems and allowed the player to choose heroes from eight factions comprising a total of 56 unit types. The game did not appear to have an actual story, however, and any events that took place in it would not be considered canon.
The background story was set in the same world as Heroes III (most notably the kingdom of Erathia) although Ubisoft-the Might and Magic brand rights licensor-introduced a new universe for the whole Might and Magic series after having acquired the rights from The 3DO Company.
Heroes of Might and Magic Online finally went offline on 31 March 2014. Originally scheduled for release in late 2005, the final release was delayed for three years, and the game launched in May 2008. It was part of the Heroes of Might and Magic franchise. Heroes of Might and Magic Online was a 2.5DMMORPG for the Chinese market and developed by Netdragon.
The story takes place around 800 YSD, with Emperor Duncan Falcon sending the hero to investigate the disappearance of Albin, the Imperial ambassador to the Dwarven lands, and Belketh having the hero trace the source of a prison outbreak, caused by Yorath, which is a part of a much greater conspiracy. The hero can travel through Nar-Heresh and Falcon's Reach.
Graphics-wise, the layout of the overworld is much more realistic, meaning cities are actually the size of a city, not of a tiny building. Another battle change is a new flanking and backstabbing. Also, a new feature allows cooperative battles with other people. The game's battles revert to the hexes of Heroes III. There are currently only two playable factions: Haven and Necropolis. Small non-guarded stashes frequently respawn, but guarded stashes are much larger. The game uses the four resources from Might & Magic: Heroes VI: gold, wood, metal, and crystal. First, instead of being turn based, the overworld is in real time (Battles are still turn based.) Also, enemies guarding stashes of resources respawn after lengths of time so that the resources can be regathered.
